Dr. Val Chukhlomin is Full Professor and Associate Department Chair in the SUNY Empire State College’s School of Business. Born and raised in Russia, he earned his Specialist (B.S. /M.A) in Economic Cybernetics and Mathematical Economics from Novosibirsk State University and his Candidate of Science (PhD) in International Political Economy from the Russian Academy of Sciences. During 30+ years, he has been teaching economics, business, and management studies in Russia, Australia, and in the last 15 years in the U.S. When in Russia, Chukhlomin developed extensive professional experience in the field of marketing and management of higher education, including positions of International Programs Director, Department Chair, Dean, and Vice-President of a major public university. While in Australia, he became Fellow of the Australian Institute of Management and a Certified Practicing Marketer with the Australian Institute of Marketing. Since joining SUNY Empire State College in 2006, Chukhlomin was initially associated with the Center of Distance Learning and MBA and is currently with the School of Business. He teaches a wide range of courses in Economics, Management, and Marketing including International Business, Cross-Cultural Management, International Marketing, International Political Economy, and Career Self-Management in the undergraduate division, as well as Scanning the Business Environment, Strategic Executive Leadership, and Strategic Global Management for MBA. Over years, Chukhlomin developed and supervised successful international projects in Australia, Central Asia, China, Eastern Europe, and Russia. His research interests include virtual learning, international distance learning, international marketing of education, cross-cultural conflicts, career skills, and global competencies. He is a SUNY Research Foundation’s expert on international online learning. In recent years, Dr. Chukhlomin has been leading the development of a series of Coursera MOOCs. In 2015, 2016 and 2020 his projects were shortlisted for awards by QS-Wharton’s Reimagine Education, the global Oscar in Higher Education Innovation. In 2020, Chukhlomin received a prestigious SUNY Chancellor’s Award for Excellence in Scholarship and Creative Activities.
